Many, many years ago, my first band was the Irish Shamrock Bagpipe Band of St. Louis, Mo. It was a direct descendent of and came from a pipe band begun under Father Timothy Dempsey's Charities, at Old St. Patrick's Church, at 6th & Biddle Streets, there in St.Louis. The band was, I am told, begun in the early 1900's. You have a wonderously fine web site! Thank you very much for the time and the work and the history that you have brought to us; for it is from all of these old bands that we have all now come. And our ties and our gratitude are to be recognised... and on-going..... In your history there is the name of the Kenefick family, and in our old band there was a fine piper named Joseph Kenefick, and it was my good fortune to play with him on many the occasion. And other names in the band were Lavin, Fahey, two branches of Sullivans, Walsh and McEvoy. "And in our hearts, to keep the memories Of the ol' bands playin' and prancin'. And, we, 'tis our turn now, to play, And keep the little ones smilin' and dancin'." Regards & Blessings to All, DC Added: March 23, 2009 |
